HC Deb 22 July 1991 vol 195 c425W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, further to his reply of 15 July,Official Report, column 472, how hospital waste not burnt at the required temperature by incinerators is disposed of.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The clinical waste element of hospital waste is rendered safe by the process of incineration. The residual ash from that process, which has also been rendered safe by the process, is disposed of at landfill sites. Where it is practical and cost effective the household waste element of hospital waste is also incinerated. The remainder of the household waste element of hospital waste is disposed of at landfill sites.
