§ Mr. BaldryThe Government provide a range of assistance to facilitate the recycling of various materials, including steel cans. Industry can seek funding through the ETIS scheme, operated jointly by my Department and the Department of Trade and Industry, and the DEMOS and EUROENVIRON schemes, administered by the Department of Trade and Industry. Voluntary organisations may apply for grant through the environmental grant fund.
We have also distributed £12 million of supplementary credit approvals for 1991–92 to enable local authorities to invest in recycling. Seventy-eight of the 96 authorities which received SCAs received approvals for schemes involving the recycling of cans.
