HC Deb 18 July 1991 vol 195 c251W
Mr. McLeish

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will list(a) the number of youth training places in his Department and (b) the number of places occupied in May for each of the years 1989, 1990 and the current year.

Miss Widdecombe

In 1989 we contracted centrally on behalf of the Departments of Health and Social Security to offer 161 places on our youth training scheme. In May 1989, 60 of those places were filled.

In 1990 the scheme changed to youth training and was offered in training weeks. The contract for both Departments for 1990 was 3,976. In May 1990, 64 trainees were in place. In 1991 the contract is for the Department of Social Security only and for 2,250 training weeks. In May 1991, 43 trainees were in place.

Notes:

1. 3,976 training weeks would be used by having an average of 92 trainees in place.

2. 2,250 training weeks would be used by having an average of 43 trainees in place.
