Mr. McLeish

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list(a) the number of youth training places in his Department and (b) the number of places occupied in May for each of the years 1989, 1990 and the current year.

Mr. McLoughlin

The Department of Transport currenty has the equivalent of 31 contracted places for youth trainees at Bristol and Swansea (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre). The numbers of trainees at the dates referred to are:
