HC Deb 18 July 1991 vol 195 c275W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what report his Department has had from Hans Blix, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency about the visits to Tuwaitha and Tarmiya in Iraq about sealing of 93 per cent. highly enriched uranium and 80 per cent. enriched uranium; and what quantities were involved.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Hans Blix, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reported directly to the Secretary General of the United Nations on the recent IAEA-led inspections of Iraqi nuclear sites. His reports are confidential and it would be improper for the Government to publish details of IAEA documents communicated in confidence to IAEA member states. It is for the IAEA to decide how to treat any findings.

I am able to say, however, that the IAEA is satisfied that it has identified and located all the uranium held under agency safeguards by the Iraqis.
