HC Deb 18 July 1991 vol 195 c268W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the Government's policy towards the European Parliament's proposal to incorporate tourism in the European treaty.

Mr. Forth

The present treaty allows for sensible co-operation between member states on tourism matters and we do not believe a case has been made for any change.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how often has the inter departmental committee on tourism met over the last three years; which Departments were represented; who attended; and what items were discussed.

Mr. Forth

The tourism co-ordination committee has met four times since the beginning of 1988. It is chaired by the Secretary of State for Employment or the Minister for Tourism, and all Departments with a significant interest in matters affecting the industry are represented at ministerial or official level. The committee has discussed a wide range of topics and policies which impinge upon the promotion and development of tourism in the United Kingdom.
