To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the number of fatalities on British Rail and London Transport for each year from 1975, giving their nature and cause.

The number of fatalities (excluding suicides and trespassers) on all railways in the period 1975–89 is as follows. An analysis of the nature and causes of accidents is given in the report on the safety record of the railways in Great Britain which is issued annually by Her Majesty's chief inspector of railways. Copies are available from the Library of the House.
