To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has any new proposals to protect dolphins and other small cetaceans.

All cetaceans are fully protected under United Kingdom law against deliberate killing. Later this year several countries including the United Kingdom will consider a detailed plan for co-operative research on small cetaceans, following an earlier United Kingdom initiative at the North sea conference forum. We already have in hand several Government-sponsored research initiatives.
