§ Mr. CousinsTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether matters referring to grant-maintained schools or city technology colleges can be referred to, or investigated by, the Audit Commission.
§ Mr. EggarNo. CTC and GM school accounts are subject to inspection by the National Audit Office as well as by the Department. It is a requirement on both GMs and CTCs that there be annual audit reports by qualified external auditors appointed by each school or college. The Audit Commission has successfully tendered to become the external auditors of several grant-maintained schools under the provisions of section 220 of the Education Reform Act 1988. There are no plans for them to act in respect of CTCs.
