Mr. Riddick

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many people are involved in the activities of the air training corps; and what level of funding his Department has provided to the ATC in the most recent years for which figures are available.

As at 31 March 1991, there were 38,127 cadets in the Air Training Corps (ATC) and 8,895 in the RAF section of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF(RAF)). The ATC and CCF(RAF) is administered by a full time staff of 93 Royal Air Force personnel and 208 civil servants, supported by 4,476 uniformed, 4,725 civilian volunteers and 716 chaplains. Funding has been provides as follows:
