HC Deb 15 July 1991 vol 195 c36W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food which veterinary investigation centre carried out the preliminary work on the identification of blue-eared pig disease; and which other centres have experience in this field.

Mr. Maclean

In the period up to 13 June 1991 possible incidents of blue-eared pig disease were reported to the Winchester, Truro, Lincoln, Preston, Newcastle and Reading veterinary investigation centres who carried out the investigations which comprised the preliminary work on the identification of blue-eared pig disease. As from 13 June 1991, blue-eared pig disease was made a notifiable disease and the responsibility now rests with the veterinary field service operating through the divisional veterinary officer. The divisional veterinary officer and his staff are now responsible for carrying out the investigation of reported incidents and samples are sent to the central veterinary laboratory at Weybridge for examination.
