To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the accounting firms in which heads of the Government Accounting Service since 1980 have been partners.

Following is the information:

  • Baker, Tilley & Co;
  • Price Waterhouse & Co;
  • KPMG Peat Marwick McLintock;

Holders of the post of head of the Government accountancy service retired from the firms of accountants in which they were partners before taking up the post.
