HC Deb 11 July 1991 vol 194 c445W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessment he has made of the state of sport in schools.

Sir Wyn Roberts

My right hon. Friend is jointly, with my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science, considering the Education, Science and Arts Select Committee report on sport in schools. They are also considering the final report of the physical education working group set up to advise on a national curriculum for PE in schools.

As part of the Government's current review of its policies towards sport and active recreation we are also looking at ways in which children of school age can be encouraged to participate in sport both during and outside school hours, including through the further promotion of links between schools and local sports clubs.
