HC Deb 11 July 1991 vol 194 c490W
Mr. John Browne

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) how many infantry battalions or manpower equivalent are contained within the establishment of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the RAF Regiment;

(2) how many British infantry battalions equate, in terms of manpower, to the Brigade of Gurkhas and the RAF Regiment.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

There are five infantry battalions in the brigade of Gurkhas together with supporting units. United Kingdom infantry battalions vary in size according to role and differences in peace and war establishments. The RAF Regiment is not structured on the basis of battalions. It is not meaningful, therefore, to draw comparisons in this way.
