HC Deb 11 July 1991 vol 194 c456W
Mr. Beith

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what provisions govern the requirement to employ a fully qualified head of clinical chemistry at relevant hospitals; what restrictions have been placed on clinical chemistry services in Ashington hospital in the absence of a suitably qualified person; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The qualification requirements for clinical scientists of all grades employed within the NHS are set out in advance letter (SP) 1/90, a copy of which is available in the Library. There are no restrictions placed on the clinical chemistry services at Ashington hospital in Northumberland. The hon. Member may wish to contact Mr. Peter Carr, the chairman of Northumberland health authority, for details.
