asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many cases of Hepatitis B were there among prison staff and prisoners respectively in the most recent year for which figures are available.

There were 56 acute and 134 chronic cases among prisoners reported by prison medical officers for the year ended 31st March 1990. Information relating to prison staff is not readily available and I shall write to the noble Baroness when the information has been collated.
