HC Deb 08 July 1991 vol 194 c284W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what research he has carried out on the comparative stringency of the controls on(a) toxic waste and (b) hazardous waste incinerators in (i) Northern Ireland, (ii) the rest of the United Kingdom, (iii) the other countries of the European Community, (iv) Canada and (v) the United States of America.

Mr. Needham

Published research information from around the world is, of course, available to the Government on incineration practices and controls and officials have visited facilities in other countries. Controls over waste incineration exercised in Northern Ireland must comply with the policy and standards of the United Kingdom which are governed by the requirements of the European Community.
