To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science What independent facilities exist to monitor examination standards since the inception of each current examination.

The School Examinations and Assessment Council is responsible for approving all GCSE and GCE syllabuses and examinations as suitable to be offered in schools. In addition to the examining bodies' own extensive scrutiny arrangements, both SEAC and Her Majesty's inspectorate scrutinise the conduct of these examinations to ensure that standards remain appropriate and consistent between subjects and examining bodies and from year to year.
