HC Deb 08 July 1991 vol 194 cc271-2W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when, following the recent completion of the review into environmentally sensitive areas, he expects to be in a position to announce further designations of environmentally sensitive areas in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 5 July 1991]: My right hon. Friend's first priority has been to consult on proposals for development of existing environmentally sensitive areas designated in 1987 and to evaluate those designated in 1988. He hopes to build on their achievements. There are no plans, currently, to designate new environmentally sensitive areas in Scotland. However, the Nature Conservancy Council for Scotland and the Countryside Commission for Scotland have been asked for advice on priorities should further designations be decided in the future.
