HL Deb 03 July 1991 vol 530 cc72-4WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many remand and sentenced prisoners have been held in police cells on each day since 8th May 1991; and how many were held by each police force on 25th June 1991.

Earl Ferrers

The total numbers of prisoners held in police cells on each day (excluding weekends and public holidays) since 8th May 1991 are shown in Table A. These numbers include both sentenced and remand prisoners. Data are not collected in a way that enables the number of remand prisoners to be readily distinguished from sentenced prisoners, but most would have been held on remand.

Table B shows the numbers held in each police force on 25th June 1991.
