HC Deb 03 July 1991 vol 194 c144W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many accesses were made to each index of the police national computer over the past year; and whether he will include in these statistics an indication of the number of access requests that could search more than one index.

Dr. Mawhinney

The Royal Ulster Constabulary does not have direct access to the police national computer but can indirectly obtain information from the computer by arrangement with police forces in Great Britain. Statistics are not maintained by the RUC on the number of inquiries made each year, but I understand from the chief constable that useage of this facility is infrequent.
