§ Mr. LeighNew technologies have improved the opportunities for participation of people with disabilities in the life of the community. This Department contributed as part of the information technology awareness campaign to a better understanding of possible applications of information technology and telecommunications products and services to benefit the disabled. Current policies and programmes to stimulate innovation in industry will lead to further developments, not only important to national economic growth but, in some cases, of particular value in the lives of those with disabilities.
