To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what consultations he has held with the local authorities concerned about the economic consequences of the closure of the Rosyth royal naval base.

We have received a number of representations from the local authorities. I met representatives of Fife regional council, Dunfermline district council and the trade unions earlier this year.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he has any plans to visit Rosyth naval dockyard; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has no plans to do so.
