HC Deb 01 July 1991 vol 194 c55W
Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to provide up-to-date waste management guidance on the implementation of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Mr. Trippier

My Department is actively engaged in revising and developing its waste management papers series. This was stated in the White Paper "This Common Inheritance".

Publication of these papers started in 1976 to provide authoritative technical guidance and codes of practice on waste handling and disposal methods. They are recognised by waste management practitioners and regulators as standards of good practice and are respected throughout the industry. We intend to build on this foundation to provide comprehensive backing for the high and consistent standards of waste management to be introduced under the Environmental Protection Act. Following public consultation, we have today published a new waste management paper (No.28) on the recycling of waste.

Our proposed programme for further work on waste management papers is as follows:

WMP Subject Consultation Issue of final document
28 Recycling out July 1991
27 Landfill gas July 1991 October 1991
1 Evaluation of Options October 1991 January 1992
