To ask the Secretary of State for Transport by how much spending on road and rail increased(a) since 1979 and (b) between 1974 and 1979.

Since 1979 investment on road and rail in Great Britain has increased by about two thirds in real terms. Between 1974 and 1979, it fell by about a third in real terms.
