HC Deb 01 July 1991 vol 194 c65W
Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) what is the lowest level of war disablement pension paid to those suffering from asbestosis;

(2) how many war disablement pensions have been and are being paid because of asbestosis arising from exposure to asbestos dust while in the forces; and how many of the asbestosis pensioners have died.

Miss Widdecombe

War disablement pensions are awarded where the degree of disablement due to service in the armed forces ranges from 20 to 100 per cent.; if less than 20 per cent. a gratuity may be awarded. These provisions apply to all disabilities.

Information regarding war pensions awarded as a result of exposure to asbestos is not available.
