§ Mr. McMasterTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table showing the level of expenditure on the sheltered placement scheme for each of the Scottish regional councils; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Allan StewartInformation about local authority expenditure on sheltered placements is not held centrally. However, the Employment Service contributes 75 per cent. of the cost to local authorities of providing sheltered employment. On the basis of claims made by regional and islands councils the Employment Service has estimated its contribution to the cost of providing sheltered placements in 1989–90, the latest year for which data are available. Details set out exclude data in respect of Borders regional council which has yet to submit details of its claim for support in respect of 1989–90.
