To ask the Secretary of State for Health what technical criteria are taken into account by health authorities when appointing independent technical consultants to evaluate competitive tenders for national health service laundry services.

This is a matter for the health authority concerned. The usual requirements are for wide experience in laundry operations, expertise in assessing the capabilities of tenderers to perform to contract requirements, and knowledge to assist the authority in selecting the most cost-effective service options.
