§ Miss Emma NicholsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Health whether he has any proposals to improve the career opportunities of women doctors.
§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyI am pleased to announce the publication today of the report of the joint working party on women doctors and their careers, a copy of which has been placed in the Library. This proposes practical measures which can be taken to improve the career opportunities of women doctors.
The Government are providing £1.5 million for a number of initiatives—including new part-time training posts, increasing the fee for doctors on retainer scheme from £155 a year to £290 and supporting a new scheme designed to increase the number of women in surgical specialties.
