Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, together with EC colleagues, attended the GATT ministerial meeting in Brussels last month which discussed, among other things, how best to phase out the multi-fibre arrangement as part of a general settlement of the Uruguay round, including the strengthening of GATT rules and disciplines. The Government hope that the talks, which were suspended over the question of agriculture, will soon reconvene.
