To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will instigate a study of the work of the independent commission against corruption in Hong Kong; and if he will bring forward proposals to create a similar body to monitor corruption in local Government.

We consider the existing powers and responsibilities of the Audit Commission and local authority auditors to be adequate.
