To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many registered voluntary organisation day centres for the mentally ill there are in Scotland; where they are; and how many places they have;

(2) how many registered local authority day centres for the mentally ill there are in Scotland; where they are; and how many places they have.

The latest information, based on reports made to the social work services group, relates to 31 March 1989 and is shown in the table.

A small number of persons who were not mentally ill attended the above centres; and about 30 mentally ill people attended day centres provided mainly for the mentally handicapped.
