HC Deb 16 January 1991 vol 183 c516W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the availability of cancer treatment for patients in north Wales.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

Radiotherapy treatment is provided to patients in north Wales at specialist centres in neighbouring English regions and central funds have provided fast comfortable ambulance transport for Gwynedd patients having to travel for treatment. Central funds have also been made available to provide medical oncology services at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Ysbyty Maelor Wrexham to reduce the need for patients to travel for treatment. A report on cancer treatment services in north Wales commissioned from Deloitte, Haskins and Sells is being considered following wide consultation. An announcement will be made as soon as possible.
