HC Deb 28 February 1991 vol 186 c611W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Bradford, South,Official Report, 31 January, column 567, what proportion of the costs of the long-term managment of radioactive waste from decommissioning the Windscale piles Nos. 1 and 2, B6 and B16 at Sellafield, will be met by his Department; and what is his current estimate of these costs in 1990 prices.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

The Ministry of Defence is making a contribution of 91.5 per cent. towards the costs incurred in decommissioning the Windscale piles and associated chimneys. The long-term options for decommissioning and associated waste management are currently being examined. It is too early to say what the total cost will be.
