§ Mr. SternTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can announce the starting date for Pay and File.
§ Mr. MaudeOn present plans, Pay and File will start on 1 October 1993 and the new rules will apply to accounting periods ending on or after that day. Companies and their advisers should therefore plan to be able to meet the requirements of Pay and File from that date. To help them to do so the Inland Revenue are today publishing an introductory guide. They are also publishing a consultative paper on tax returns under the new system.
A final decision on the starting date will be taken nearer the time, but an early announcement would be made if the date for planning purposes were to be deferred.
