To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average annual change in manufacturing productivity between 1974 and 1979 and 1979 to 1989.

The average growth in manufacturing productivity between 1974 and 1979 was 1.1 per cent. Between 1979 and 1989 it was 4.1 per cent.
