HC Deb 28 February 1991 vol 186 c544W
Mr. Cartwright

To ask the Lord President of the Council what steps he is taking to encourage the use of low-energy light bulbs in the Palace of Westminster.

Mr. MacGregor

The Parliamentary Works Office, which has responsibility for such matters, are fitting low-energy light bulbs wherever possible. Many chandeliers and lighting globes have been converted, including those in the Members Tea Room, the Grand Committee Room and Westminster Hall. Work has taken place also to convert inefficient fluorescent lighting in other areas of the Palace including the stranger's corridor and Whips Offices. It is estimated that these measures will save some £10,000 per annum in energy costs.
