HC Deb 27 February 1991 vol 186 cc540-2W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the cost of extending the entitlement under income support to free milk and vitamins for expectant and nursing mothers and children under five to people claiming family credit.

Mr. Dorrell

I have been asked to reply.

The estimated cost of providing free welfare milk and vitamins to children under five and expectant and nursing mothers in receipt of family credit in England in 1991–92 would be £17 million. When family credit was introduced in 1988 the children's rates were set at higher cash levels In place of allowing free welfare milk.
