§ Mr. MartlewTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the number of persons who have been convicted of homicide within two years of being released from compulsory detention in a mental hospital, in each of the last 10 years in England and Wales.
Mr. PattenRecords available to me show two persons, one released in 1977 and one in 1981, who were convicted of homicide within two years of release from a mental hospital. Further information on recalls and reconvictions of mentally disordered offenders is published annually in a Home Office Statistical Bulletin. A copy of the latest issue "Reconvictions and recalls of life licensees and mentally disordered offenders, 1988" (HOSB 27/90) is available in the Library.
