HC Deb 27 February 1991 vol 186 c530W
Mr. Bellingham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent representations he has received in connection with beach pollution in East Anglia.

Mr. Trippier

My right hon. Friend and I have received a number of representations concerning the sewerage improvement programme for bathing waters in East Anglia. I am pleased to say that the Government's policy on enhanced treatment for coastal and estuarial discharges is being steadily implemented and in 1990 93 per cent. of the region's identified bathing waters met the relevant standards of the directive.
