§ 19. Mr. FearnTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment when he last met the chairman of the British tourist board to discuss the state of the tourist industry in Britain.
§ Mr. ForthMy right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State last met the chairman of the British Tourist Authority on 10 December.
In the light of the present difficulties of the tourist industry, £800,000 has been made available to enable the English tourist board, working closely with the authority and the three other national tourist boards, to launch a major campaign next month to ensure that United Kingdom residents are aware of the opportunities for taking a holiday in the United Kingdom. My noble Friend the Under-Secretary of State has also decided to make available to the BTA a further £800,000 on top of the grant in aid already agreed for 1991–92 for promotion overseas after the situation in the Gulf has been resolved.
