Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to his answer, 18 February,Official Report, column 581, what proposals he has for depositing a copy of the corporate plan of the South Glamorgan TEC in the Library.

Mr. Jackson

The executive summary of the plans of the South Glamorgan TEC will be deposited in the Library when it becomes available.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what involvement his Department had in the tender process for constructing the new South Glamorgan TEC headquarters project at Dumballs road, Cardiff.

Mr. Jackson

My Department has not been involved in the tendering process for construction work to the proposed South Glamorgan TEC headquarters.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment on what date his director of field operations first contacted the chairman of South Glamorgan TEC concerning the procedure for carrying out the construction of the new TEC headquarters.

Mr. Jackson

The first contact took place on 9 December 1990 and was in the form of a telephone conversation.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment when his Department was first made aware of the involvement of E. C. Harris & Co., quantity surveyors, in the tendering process for the construction of the new South Glamorgan TEC.

My Department first became aware of the involvement of E. C. Harris, quantity surveyors, in the tendering process for the refurbishment of South Glamorgan TEC offices on 24 September 1990.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will place copies in the Library of the notes of the telephone discussion which took place between the director of field operations and the chairman of South Glamorgan TEC on 7 December 1990.

No notes of this telephone discussion were taken.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment when his Department was informed that the Bank of Wales had ceased any financial involvement in the project to develop the new South Glamorgan TEC headquarters.

Financing arrangements of this kind are a matter for the TEC board.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what analysis his Department made of the relative costs and benefits of South Glamorgan TEC renting new premises for its operations compared with participation in the new headquarters refurbishment project; and what advice was given to the TEC in this respect in June and July 1990.

Mr. Jackson

In June and July 1990, my Department discussed various locations with the South Glamorgan TEC. The final decision on where to locate is for the individual TEC to make, taking into account the finances available.
