To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a list of instances where his Department has ruled against the decisions of local councils in Wales on cases involving planning applications during 1990.

Among 514 planning appeals allowed against the refusal or failure of local planning authorities to grant planning permission, the following are representative examples:

  • small residential developments of 1–12 houses,
  • single-storey extensions to dwellings,
  • alterations to dwellings/loft conversions/dormers,
  • residential homes for elderly/sheltered housing/nursing homes,
  • conversion of agricultural buildings to residential accommodation/holiday accommodation,
  • new agricultural accommodation,
  • removal of agricultural occupancy conditions,
  • farm diversifications schemes,
  • removal of conditions applied to planning permissions,
  • changes of use to tea shops, cafes, take-aways, offices, shops, flats, bed-sits,
  • formation of accesses and parking spaces,
  • increase in number of caravans, siting of new caravans and domestic garaging, garden sheds, store sheds, pigeon loft.
