To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will list, by region, the allocated number of staff days for fraud work covering the period 1 April 1990 to 31 December 1990; and what was the number used.

The Department allocates resources for the investigation of fraud on a yearly basis in terms of posts. The number of posts allocated to benefit fraud work by region, for the year 1990–91, are shown in the table, with the number of staff days actually used on fraud work by region during the period 1 April 1990 to 31 December 1990.
