§ Mr. YeoIt is estimated that some 54,000 assured tenancies were let by housing associations in England in 1989, and the provisional figure for 1990 is 61,000. In addition, in 1989 21,000 tenants converted to assured tenancies when ownership of their homes was transferred from local authorities or new towns to housing associations. The provisional estimate for 1990 is 30,000.
