HL Deb 25 February 1991 vol 526 c39WA
Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many City Technology Colleges now exist; how many they intend to establish; how much money they and the private sector have each provided; and whether private sector funding has met government targets.

Baroness Blatch

Seven CTCs are open and there are firm plans to open seven more by the autumn of 1992. The Government will consider further well-founded proposals.

The total cost to date of the fourteen CTCs which I have referred to is some £99m, the capital element of which is some £80m. Our private sector partners have undertaken to provide at least 20 per cent. of this capital element and their committed contribution to the programme as a whole stands at over £32m. Overall, this handsome contribution more than meets our expectations and individual targets are being met.
