§ Mr. Hardy
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will provide support for research and development in relation to the pursuit of topping cycle technology.

§ Mr. Moynihan
The Government announced at the beginning of February that they would be providing an additional £3.7 million this financial year for research into British Coal's topping cycle project at Grimethorpe. This brings the Department of Energy's total contribution to the project this year to £9.2 million and maintains the project's schedule.
