HC Deb 21 February 1991 vol 186 cc266-7W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what steps is his Department taking to increase the take-up of mobility allowance by the deaf-blind; and if he will make a statement on progress to date.

Mr. Scott

We have been monitoring the take-up of mobility allowance by people who are both deaf and blind and we have been disappointed that more claims have not been made. That is why on 18 February we started a nationwide publicity campaign primarily targeted on carers and professionals working with disabled people. It involves a direct mailshot to carers and professionals, the distribution of leaflets in specialist journals, and radio broadcasts.
