HC Deb 20 February 1991 vol 186 c189W
Mr. Henderson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take steps to monitor job losses in the textile and clothing industry by region and travel-to-work area.

Mr. Forth

Estimates of changes in employment in the textile and clothing industry for regions and for travel-to-work areas are available from the biennial censuses of employment.

Employment service local offices receive advance notice of large scale redundancies and are ready to consider, with the companies involved, specific responses in individual cases. The Department also produces figures on confirmed redundancies for standard regions only, provided that this does not enable individual companies to be identified. I do not intend to add to the burdens on business by extending this information.
