HC Deb 20 February 1991 vol 186 c154W
Mr. Wolfson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, further to his announcement on 4 December 1990,Official Report, columns 173–76, if he will announce any other further expressions of interest by hospitals or other units which are proceeding to NHS trust status for April 1992; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

I have now agreed that a further six hospitals and other units, which have expressed an interest in trust status, can proceed to work up applications to become trusts on 1 April 1992. These are

  • West Berkshire Health Services
  • Ealing Acute Hospital
  • York Health Services
  • Lancaster Acute Hospital Services
  • Lancaster Priority Services
  • Bath and Wiltshire Community Services

Since I last announced a total of 123 expressions of interest, eight of these hospitals and other units have decided to work to a slower time scale in their consideration of trust status. These are

  • Darlington Health Services
  • Kendal Hospitals
  • West Norfolk and Wisbech Community Unit
  • East Surrey Mental Illness and Mental Handicap
  • Bexley Mental Health
  • Queen Victoria Hospital East Grinstead
  • Eastbourne Community Services
  • Dartford and Gravesham Acute Services

At this stage each unit is considering in detail the implications of NHS trust status, and this list will be subject to change until the formal applications are received.
